Effects of Late-Gestation Nutritional Restriction and Hydroxytyrosol Supplementation on Behavioural Responses and Neuroendocrine Blood Markers in Beef Cows and Their Calves

Abstract

Late-gestation nutritional restriction in beef cows altered feeding behaviour, increased stress indicators, and disrupted circadian and inflammatory gene expression in both cows and calves. Supplementation with hydroxytyrosol partially alleviated these effects, improving maternal stress responses and restoring normal behavioural, circadian, and inflammatory profiles in calves to levels comparable with those born to adequately fed dams.
